Echion married Agave , daughter of Cadmus. They had a son Pentheus  who took power in Thebes and is best known for having opposed the introduction of the rites of Dionysus . However, his mother was a supporter of the god, and she induced the Theban women to leave their houses and abandon themselves to what is called Bacchic frenzy. In the conflict that ensued Agave  torn her son limb from limb, or else Pentheus  was killed by the MAENADS, attendants of Dionysus , when he was spying on them. Echion  and Agave  had a daughter Epirus [Apd.3.4.1-2, 3.5.2; Pau.9.5.4; Parth.32.4].

Family-Parentage

Echion  is one of the SPARTI, and Agave  was daughter of Cadmus.
Besides Pentheus , Echion  and Agave had a daughter Epirus, who was journeying with Cadmus and Harmonia , bearing the remains of Pentheus , when she died. The country of her death was called Epirus after her.

Thesprotia - The most ancient Epirotic nation. According to Homer:

"Δεκάτη δε νυκτί μελαίνη Γαίη Θεσπρωτών πέλασε μέγα κύμα κυλίνδον ένθα με θεσπρωτών βασιλεύς εκομίσατο Φείδων"

In reality and as Herodotus also affirms, Thessalians were a branch of Thesprotians thus Thessalians and Epirotans were kinsmen. (VII.176, Strab IX.p.443)

This was a nice web site of Paramythia. I liked your pictures, but you should have shown more pictures of Paramythia, which is a very nice village. I would have enjoyed more pictures of Gorilla which is the mighty'est montain in europe, and it is strange that nobody outside of thesprotia have heard of its greatness. We know for a fact that the goods did not live on Olympos, they lived on Gorilla, and I think it would be a good thing if you tried to spread to the general public the truth about Dias living on the second peak -starting from the north side- of Gorilla. This new enlightment of the people will generate a new era of mass invasion by tourists into Paramythia, and that is good for the general economy.

Για τους μη αγγλομαθής, ο φίλος μας λέει πως το δωδεκάθεο πρωτοεμφανίστηκε στα μέρη μας και πως οι αρχαίοι θεοί κατοικούσαν στο Γκορίλα. Μάλιστα απορεί γιατί δεν το έχουμε κάνει γνωστό στο ευρύτερο κοινό αφού στην Ευρώπη το ξέρουν.
